Golden Moments 1

Viewing the same thing, two people can process two different thoughts and have two completely different experiences. From the terrace of a building, Vasudha, my friend, and I were watching schoolchildren, in uniform, gracefully moving on the other side of the road. They might have come on an excursion. They were coming out of the Visvesvaraya Technological Museum, which is located just opposite to my workplace. The class leaders and teachers were guiding the students to move in a proper queue. It was a site to watch them moving in a straight line. “Thousands of students from various parts of the nation visit this Museum every day. But this Kasturba Road does not have any good food joint. Opening a hygienic food joint can make super business here. I should share this with someone who can make a business out of this idea.” I was processing my thoughts in this line. Vasudha interrupted my thought flow with her statement, “These school children move like angels. They have nothing to worry. No responsibilities to handle. They are just free birds. Schooldays are the beautiful phase in one’s life. Aren’t they Paraman? Those were the golden moments of life!” Saying so, she was lost in her own thoughts. Her statement, “Those were the golden moments…” took me down the memory lane.

We were travelling in a national highway to attend a wedding. Preethi, my friend’s wife, said, “Those days are gone, when we from both the families used to go for long drives and had great times. Those were the golden moments.” Mukunthan, my friend replied, “Paraman and I used to be in the same project. We used to work, roam, workout, and watch movies together. We had lots of such great time. We too had our golden moments.”

Vasudha is pointing at those schoolchildren and calling it the golden moment of life. But those schoolchildren may never realise that these are their golden moments. Same is the case with us, adults. When we were in school, we never felt that those were our golden moments. After going to the college, we looked back at our schooldays and referred to them as our golden moments. After finishing college, amidst the busy professional life, we look back at our college days as the golden moments of our life. After settling down in marriage, the days when we were single seem to be our golden moments, in retrospect. Golden moments, it seems, is always in post-mortem of the past!?
This means, our today will appear to be a golden moment, tomorrow. So, let us realise, whatever we are going through right now – this project, the time with children and spouse, with my Guru, with my fitness regime, with my friends – are going to be tagged as golden moments later. Why can’t I realise that right now as I am living these great moments, instead of it being a post-mortem later. May be that’s why all spiritual leaders keep telling us, “Live in the present.”

Golden Moments

It seems… Unable to handle the pranks of little Krishna and the ensuing complaints from neighbours, Yasoda, Krishna’s mother, chained him with a stone mortar. Kamsa, Krishna’s uncle, who wanted to kill Krishna sent two asuras (demons). Those two asuras took the form of trees, stood outside Krishna’s house and waited for the right time to vanquish Krishna. Understanding the situation, Krishna dragged the stone mortar along, and stood smilingly in between those two trees. The mortar got struck between the two trees. As he moved further those two trees got uprooted, and thus those two asuras were destroyed. Those two asuras represent our past and the future. Krishna, the God stands in between the past and future, smilingly. Being in the present is being with Him and He will destroy the misery of the past and remove the uncertainty of the future.

How true? We are either busy in doing a post-mortem of the past, calling it ‘the golden moments of my life’ or lost in glorifying the future by fantasising some ‘golden moments’. Either ways, I miss this moment, the present, the truth. Let me enjoy the current phase of life. It is a great phase. It has a purpose. It has a meaning. The next moment will be born from the womb of this moment. Let me not miss it now and understand the value of this later. Tomorrow let me not add a tag ‘golden moment’ for what I am going through today. Today is the day. Now is the moment. Here is the place. This is the golden moment.

Let the language no more be, “Those WERE the golden moments.” Let the language be, “These ARE the golden moments.” After all, He is standing in between, smilingly.
Let the language no more be, “Those WERE the golden moments.”
Let the language be, “These ARE the golden moments.”
